Berlin – Reni´s Odds and Sods

Meine Reiselust führte mich und meinen Schatz in diesem Jahr an drei wunderschöne Ziele in Europa:

Mai in London

Nach langer bzw. sehr langer Zeit zog es mich mal wieder nach London. Das letzte Mal war ich vor mehr als 30 Jahren dort. Sightseeing, Freunde treffen und Shopping standen auf dem Programm. Wir haben am Stadtrand in Harrow-on-the-Hill gewohnt, ein beschauliches Städtchen, das für seine Elite-Schule berühmt ist. Mit der Metropolitan Line war man aber in 20 Minuten in der City.

Es hat sich derart viel verändert in London – unglaublich, aber verständlich in der langen Zeit. Na, jedenfalls habe ich die 8 Tage in vollen Zügen genossen. Besonders aufgefallen ist mir, dass London sehr sauber ist (im Gegensatz zu den großen Städten in NRW). Nirgends lag Müll herum, noch nicht einmal ein Zigarettenstummel.

May in London

After a very long time I felt drawn towards London again. It´s more than thirty years since I stayed here. We wanted to pass the time with sightseeing, meeting friends and going shopping. We stayed in Harrow-on-the-Hill which is a quiet little town with a famous school. You can get to the city within 20 minutes by Metropolitan Line.

It´s not a great surprise that London has changed a lot during all these years. Anyway, I enjoyed this 8 days´ trip to the full. It is very remarkable that London is extremely clean (compared to the big cities in my surrounding area). Nowhere did you find any rubbish, not even a cigarette end.

Juni / Juli in Wolkenstein (Dolomiten)

Hier konnten wir der Affenhitze in der Heimat entgehen. Es war rund 10 Grad kühler auf der anderen Seite der Alpen. Wandern, Relaxen und Touren in die Umgebung ließen die Urlaubstage bei 25 bis 28 Grad wie im Fluge vergehen. Bisher kannte ich die Dolomiten nur im Winter, dicht verschneit. Was da im Sommer unter dem Schnee zutage tritt, ist wirklich atemberaubend. Beim Einchecken in unserem Hotel gab es noch eine Überraschung: die Val Gardena Mobil Card, mit der man kostenlos im gesamten Dolomiten-Gebiet mit Bus und Zug umher fahren konnte. Danke dafür.

June / July in Wolkenstein (Dolomites)

Here we could escape the sweltering heat at home. It was about 10 degrees less on the other side of the Alps. We spent our holydays hiking, relaxing or making tours at moderate temperatures of 25 to 28 degrees. I´ve been here only in winter before, everything being white. The summer reveals an amazing landscape. Checking in our hotel there was a big surprise waiting for us: the Val Gardena Mobile Card you could go everywhere within the Dolomites with – free of charge. Thanks a lot.

Auf den Langkofel, genauer gesagt in die Langkofel-Scharte, ging es mit einer kleinen Gondel, in der nur 2 Personen Platz hatten.

You had to go up the Langkofel-Gap in a little gondola taking 2 persons only.

August in Berlin

Ende August war eine gute Zeit für eine 5-tägige Städtetour nach Berlin. Es war warm, aber nicht zu heiß, um die Stadt zu erkunden. Ich war seit den 90er Jahren nicht mehr dort. Damals war Berlin eine riesige Baustelle. Unsere Hauptstadt kann sich durchaus mit anderen Metropolen in Europa messen. Ich könnte mir vorstellen, hier zu leben. Aber auch in London, New York, San Francisco, Rom …

August in Berlin

Going to Berlin is best by the end of August. It´s perfectly warm but not too hot to browse round the city. I haven´t been here since the late nineties. At this time Berlin was a big construction site. Our capital easily can compete with other capitals in Europe. I would like to live here. But in London, New York, San Francisco, Rome … as well.
