Gold und Perlen sollten die Basis für meinen Look sein. Ich wählte diesen Ballonrock und die Seidenbluse. Beides habe ich vor einigen Jahren mal für einen festlichen Anlass genäht. Als Accessoires trage ich eine goldene dreireihige Statement-Perlenkette und anderen Goldschmuck. Die Slingpumps und das Handtäschchen sind ebenfalls goldfarben.
Gold and pearls should be the basis for my look. I chose this balloon skirt and the silk blouse. Both I sewed some years ago for a festive occasion. As accessory I wear a gold three row statement pearl necklace and other gold jewelry. The sling pumps and the little handbag are also gold coloured.

mein liebstes Hobby verdanke ich meinem Vater, denn von ihm habe ich schon als Kind das Nähen gelernt. So konnte ich mir schon mit 14 Jahren meine Sachen selbst nähen oder Gekauftes optimieren. Ich fände es schrecklich, wenn ich für jeden Hosensaum zum Schneider gehen müsste. Die Tatsache, dass ich nähen kann, hat schon so manches Kleidungsstück vor dem Altkleidersack gerettet. Das ist nicht nur nachhaltig, sondern spart auch eine Menge Geld. Auch in meinem Beruf als Lehrerin für Textilgestaltung (und Englisch) war es mir immer ein Anliegen, möglichst vielen Kindern (natürlich auch den Jungs) das Nähen beizubringen. Und erstaunlicherweise haben sich die Jungs dabei oft geschickter angestellt als die Mädchen.
Heute möchte ich euch 3 Jeansteile zeigen, die durch Upcycling mittels geringfügiger Veränderungen zu Lieblingsteilen wurden. „Vorher-Bilder“ habe ich leider nicht, aber ich versuche euch zu beschreiben, wie sie vorher aussahen.
Hi my dears,
I owe my dearest hobby to my father, because he already taught me how to sew, when I was a child. And so I could make my own clothes or optimize clothes I´ve already had, at the age of 14. It would be aweful for me to go to the tailor for each trouser’s hem. The fact that I can sew has saved many a piece from the old clothes bag. This isn’t just sustainable but also saves a lot of money. In my job as a textile design teacher too it has always been my aim to teach as many children as possible (boys included) how to sew. And it was amaising enough that the boys often were more skilful than the girls.
Today I’ll show you 3 denim pieces, which became part of my favourites by upcycling with simple alterations. Unfortunately I don’t have „before photos“, but I’ll try to describe how the pieces looked before.
Patchworkjeans / Patchwork jeans
Diese Jeans habe ich vor ein paar Jahren gekauft. Sie gefiel mir, weil sie etwas höher geschnitten ist als die, die ich bis dahin hatte. Sie ist sehr angenehm zu tragen, weil sie einen Stretchanteil hat. Außerdem fand ich den Verschluss mit Knöpfen cool. Die Jeans war an den Hosenbeinen asymmetrisch ausgefranst, was mir schon bald nicht mehr gefiel. Daher habe ich die Fransen einfach abgeschnitten. Außerdem störten mich die applizierten Sterne auf den Knien. Da kam mir kürzlich die Idee, den aktuellen Patchworktrend umzusetzen. Ich hatte noch 2 abgeschnittene Hosenbeine in meinem Fundus, die ich aufbewahrt hatte, als ich mal aus einer alten Jeans Shorts gemacht habe. Daraus habe ich 2 passende Rechtecke zugeschnitten, die ich über die Sterne nähen wollte. Dazu musste ich meine Jeans-Hosenbeine allerdings innen auftrennen. Nachdem ich die Rechtecke aufgenäht hatte, habe ich die Hosenbeine wieder geschlossen und fertig war die Patchworkjeans.
I´ve bought these jeans some years ago. They have a highwaist cut, which I preferred to the jeans I had before. They are quite comfortable to wear, because they have a stretch component. I think it´s also cool, that they are closed with buttons. The jeans were asymmetrically frayed at the legs, which I soon didn’t like any more. That’s why I simply cut off the frays. I didn’t like the stars at the knees either. Then I had the idea to go for the trendy patchwork style. I still had two cut-off denim legs in my stock, which I had kept after having made shorts from old jeans a while ago. I cut 2 matching rectangles of them, which I wanted to cover the stars with. But before I had to unstitch the inner side of the jeans‘ legs. After I had fixed the rectangles, I closed the legs again and my patchwork jeans were finished.
Hemdjacke /Shacket
Dieses Jeanshemd war ursprünglich hinten ein ganzes Stück länger als vorne. Das sah in der Seitenansicht komisch aus. Also habe ich meine Schere gezückt und das Rückenteil an das vordere angeglichen und umgesäumt. Da der Stoff relativ fest ist, trage ich das Hemd jetzt meistens als Jacke. Die Brusttaschen sehen auch aus wie die einer Jacke.
This jeans shirt was quite a bit longer at the back than at the front. That looked funny in side view. So I took my scissors and cut the back down until it matched the front, and then I seamed it again. As the fabric is quite solid, I usually wear the shirt as a jacket. The patch chest pockets also resemble those of a jacket.
Kickflare-Jeans
Diese Jeans ist schon ca. 15 Jahre alt. Sie hatte ursprünglich einen normalen Saum. Ich fand sie schon immer einen Tick zu kurz. Hier kam mir der Trend mit ausgefransten Säumen zugute. Der Saum wurde kurzerhand aufgetrennt, und so wurde die Jeans nicht nur moderner, sondern auch etwas länger.
These jeans are already about 15 years old. Originally they had a normal hem. I always thought they were a bit too short. Here the trend of frayed hems benefited me. I simply unstitchehd the hem, and so the jeans didn’t just become more modern, but a bit longer too.
Was haltet ihr von Upcycling? / What do you think about upcycling?
heute möchte ich euch mein letztes Upcycling-Projekt vorstellen. Ich hatte schon seit ein paar Jahren ein kurzes Sweatshirtkleid im Schrank, das ich noch nie anhatte. Ich habe mich einfach nicht wohl darin gefühlt. Daher beschloss ich, ein Midikleid daraus zu machen. Das ging folgendermaßen:
Ich habe das Kleid in 2 Teile geschnitten und den unteren Teil durch einen längeren ersetzt. Dafür habe ich einen karierten Sweatshirtstoff verwendet, den ich noch in meinem Fundus hatte und der prima zum hellgrauen oberen Teil passt. Das neue Unterteil sollte folgende Merkmale bekommen: eine kleine Falte im Rücken, Seitenschlitze, aufgesetzte Taschen und offene Nähte an der Verbindungsnaht, den Taschen und den Ärmelbündchen. Die Ärmel habe ich bei der Gelegenheit gekürzt, denn sie waren viel zu lang.
Mit dem Ergebnis bin ich sehr zufrieden. Es ist ein kuscheliges Midikleid für zu Hause geworden, das sich aber auch sehr gut in der Öffentlichkeit sehen lassen kann, findet ihr nicht?

today I’d like to present you my latest upcycling project. I´ve had a short sweatshirt dress in my cupboard for some years, but I´ve never worn it. I simply didn´t feel comfortable in it. That´s why I decided to make a midi dress of it. It went like this:
I cut the dress in two pieces and replaced the bottom part by a longer one. I used a checkered sweatshirt fabric, which I found in my stocks and which suits nicely with the light grey upper part. The new bottom part was supposed to have the following features: a small fold in the back, side slits, patch pockets and open seams at the connection seam, the pockets and the cuffs. I shortened the sleeves on this occasion, because they were way too long.
I´m very satisfied with the result. It turned out a cosy midi dress for home, which can be also seen in public very well, don´t you think so?
Und was treibt ihr so im Lockdown? / And what are you doing in lockdown?
ich hoffe, ihr hattet trotz aller Einschränkungen schöne Feiertage und seid gut ins neue Jahr gekommen. Für 2021 wünsche ich euch alles Liebe und Gute, aber vor allen Dingen Gesundheit und dass wir alle bald wieder ein halbwegs normales Leben führen können. Ich vermisse nämlich jetzt langsam meine beiden Sportkurse und meine Tanzsportgruppe, die zur Zeit wenigstens per Zoom-Videokonferenz stattfindet. Außerdem freue ich mich auf meine Mädels, mit denen ich mich normalerweise jeden Montag treffe. Ich möchte wieder ins Kino gehen, ins Restaurant usw.. Vor allem freue ich mich aber darauf, endlich wieder reisen zu können. Das haben wir uns 2020 nämlich verkniffen, auch wenn es uns als Vielreiser schwer fiel. Aber was rede ich, das geht euch ja genauso, denke ich. Das soll auch kein Gejammere sein, denn die Einschränkungen waren/sind zwingend notwendig und hätten stellenweise m.M.n. noch strenger sein können/müssen. Nein, es soll eine positive Perspektive zeigen, auf die wir uns in diesem Jahr freuen können, wenn wir noch eine Weile vernünftig handeln.
Ich habe die Feiertage ganz ruhig zu Hause mit meinem Schatz verbracht. Ich habe viel gelesen, fern gesehen, viel genäht, gut gegessen und getrunken und daher 2 kg zugenommen. Es wäre wohl noch mehr geworden, wenn ich mir nicht einen Hula Hoop-Reifen zugelegt hätte. Mit dem lasse ich nun jeden Tag meine Hüften kreisen und komme dabei ganz schön außer Atem.
Es gab drei Anlässe, zu denen wir uns traditionell schick machen, auch zu Zweit zu Hause: Heilig Abend, unser Hochzeitstag am 28. Dezember und Silvester. Ich möchte euch hier meine Looks zeigen, sie sollten schick sein, aber trotzdem bequem. Das ist mir gelungen, denn ich habe mich mit meiner Wahl wohl gefühlt. Auch mein unglaublich schönes Weihnachtsgeschenk will ich euch nicht vorenthalten. Los geht’s:
Hi my dears,
I hope you all had lovely holidays and got well into 2021 despite all restrictions. I wish you for the new year all the very best, but especially health and that we can return to normal life soon. I miss my two sports classes and my dancing class, which at least takes place via Zoom video meetings at the moment. I´m looking forward to see my girls again, which I normally meet every Monday. And I´d like to go to the cinema and the restaurant etc. again. But most of all I can´t wait to travel. In 2020 we haven´t travelled at all, although that was quite a waiver for us as real travel junkies. But what am I talking about, you all feel the same, I guess. I really don´t want to complain, because the restrictions were/are absolutely necessary and f.m.o. they should have been even stricter in some situations. No, I just intend to point out the positive perspective we can look forward this new year, if we will still act sensibly a while.
I spent the holidays quietly at home with my hubby, I read a lot, watched TV, sewed a lot , ate and drank a lot and that´s why I gained 2 extra kilos. It could have easily been more if I hadn´t got a hula hoop which I use to circle my hips every day what makes me quite exhausted.
There were three occasions we traditionally dress up to, even just the two of us at home: Christmas eve, our wedding anniversary and new year´s eve. I want to show you my looks now, which were supposed to be chic but at the same time comfortable.I think I managed because I felt very well with my choice. And I neither want to withhold my awesome Xmas present from you. Here we go:
Heilig Abend / Christmas Eve
Ich trage eine Paillettenhose, die sowohl golden als auch silbern schimmert. Dazu ein schwarzes Langarmshirt, schwarze Mules und festlichen Schmuck.
I´m wearing sequin trousers, which shimmer both silver and gold. A black longsleeve, black mules and festive jewelry go with it.
Hochzeitstag / Wedding anniversary
Zur Feier des Tages habe ich ein wollweißes Strickkleid angezogen und meine schwarzen Mules, die ich bei solchen Anlässen immer zu Hause trage. (Auf dem Foto habe ich allerdings schwarze Chelseaboots an.) Dazu eine lange Gliederkette.
To celebrate the day I put on an off-white knitted dress and my black mules again, which I wear at home on such occasions. (In the picture I´m actually wearing black Chelsea boots.) I added a long chain necklace.
Silvester / New Year´s Eve
Zum Jahreswechsel habe ich eine schwarze Satinhose mit goldenem Muster getragen. Ich hatte überlegt, dazu mein DIY-Seidentop mit der großen Rückenschleife anzuziehen. Daraus wurde aber aus Gründen der Bequemlichkeit ein schwarzes Top und eine gelbe Strickjacke. Dazu wieder meine Mules und eine Statement-Perlenkette.
I welcomed the new year in black satin trousers with a golden pattern. I thought about wearing my DIY silk top with its big bow in the back with it. But because of the cosyness it turned into a black top and a yellow cardigan. I combined my mules again and a statement pearl-necklace with it.
Und nun mein unglaubliches Weihnachtsgeschenk / And now my awesome Christmas present
Der Weihnachtsmann hat sich in diesem Jahr selbst übertroffen, als er mir diesen umwerfenden schwarzen Steppmantel brachte, den man auch wenden kann (dann ist er khakifarben). Ist er nicht ein Träumchen?! Natürlich musste ich ihn am 1. Weihnachtstag sofort zum Spaziergang anziehen!
Santa has outdone himself this year, when he brought me this awesome puffer coat, which is reversible (then it is khaki). Is´nt it a dream?! Of course I had to wear it right away for a walk on Christmas day!

Corona hat durchaus positive Nebenwirkungen: Die Fenster sind geputzt, die Schränke ausgemistet und Vieles, was man so vor sich hergeschoben hatte, ist auch erledigt. So hatte ich z.B. seit mindestens 2 Jahren ein angefangenes Kleid aus taubenblauer Seide herumliegen, das darauf wartete, fertig gemacht zu werden. Denkt nicht, dass ich seither nicht genäht hätte, Nähen ist fast eine Dauerbeschäftigung von mir. Aber bei diesem Kleid wusste ich einfach nicht genau, wie es denn werden sollte. Den ursprünglichen Schnitt hatte ich verworfen, nachdem das Oberteil fast fertig war. Ich mache meine Schnitte immer selbst (habe Textilgestaltung studiert, u.a. Schnitttechnik) und suchte nun nach einer neuen Idee. Nun ja, jetzt ist es ein luftiges Hängerchen geworden mit kleinen Rüschen an den halblangen Ärmeln und am Ausschnitt. Ich bin sehr zufrieden!

Corona definitely has positive aspects too: The windows are cleaned, cupboards are tidied out and much more is done, that had been pushed off for so long. For example the dove blue silk dress, that had been waiting half-finished in my closet for at least two years to get ready. Don´t think that I hadn´t sewn since then, sewing is almost a permanent thing of mine. But I simply had no idea how this dress should look like in the end. I had discarded the original pattern after the top part was nearly finished. I normally make my own patterns (I studied textile art, including making patterns) and now I couldn`t make up my mind about this dress. Well, finally it came out a light, loose dress with little ruffles on the neckline and the half length sleeves. I´m very happy with it!
Wie findet ihr mein neuestes Werk? / How do you like my latest creation?
in diesem Winter habe ich meine alte Liebe wieder neu entdeckt. Nein, es ist kein Verflossener, sondern die Farbe Braun in allen ihren Schattierungen. Gleichzeitig – und da bin ich sicher nicht ganz unbeeinflusst von den aktuellen Modetrends – habe ich mich neu verliebt. Nämlich in das Glencheck-Karo! Nicht, dass ich es bislang nicht auf dem Schirm gehabt hätte, aber in diesem Winter ist die Liebe voll entflammt. Und daher ist dies bereits der dritte Look mit Glencheck, den ich euch hier zeige.
Diese Bundfaltenhose aus braun- kariertem Wollstoff gab es nur 2 Nummern größer als ich brauche. Da ich aber sehr gut nähen kann, war dies kein Problem für mich. Ratzfatz hatte ich die Seitennähte und die rückwärtige Naht, sowie das Bündchen angepasst, und die Hose sitzt! Ich trage zur Hose einen camelfarbenen Kaschmirpulli und braune Chelsea Boots. Auch einen passenden Gürtel habe ich in meinem Schrank gefunden! Mit meinem dunkelbraunen Mantel und einem braunen Shopper wird der Look komplett. Natürlich darf auch eine braune Sonnenbrille nicht fehlen, die ich auch im Winter häufig brauche.

this winter I rediscovered an old love. No, it´s not a past lover, but it´s the colour brown in all its shades. At the same time – and in this concern I´m probably slightly influenced by the current fashion trends – I fell in love with something new. What I mean is the Glencheck pattern! Don´t think that I hadn´t focused on it until now, but this winter I´m totally in it. And thus this is already the third Glencheck look I´m presenting you here.
These pleated pants of a brown checkered woolen fabric were only available two sizes larger than I need. This wasn´t a problem for me, because I can sew quite well. I easily adapted the side seams and the back seam as well as the waistband, and the pants fitted! I´m wearing a camel coloured Cashmere sweater and brown Chelsea boots with the pants. I also found a suitable belt in my closet! My brown coat and shopper complete the look. Of course the sunglasses, which I often need in winter too, should not be missing either.

es ist mir immer ein großes Vergnügen, mit den Sachen aus meinem Schrank neue Looks zu kombinieren. Aber die Freude ist umso größer, wenn es sich dabei um Sachen handelt, die ich schon viele Jahre besitze, oder die ich selbst gemacht habe.
Die orangefarbene Leinenhose mit weiten Beinen habe ich mindestens schon 20 Jahre. Ich liebe die Farbe, das Material und den Schnitt. Sie sieht toll aus mit Shirts, Blusen oder Sommerpullis. Aber besonders gut gefällt mir dazu das lange schwarze Blusentop mit blauen und orangen Blümchen.

it´s always a great pleasure for me to combine items from my closet to create new looks. But it´s even more fun when these items are many years old or when I made them myself.
I´ve got these orange linen pants with wide legs at least for 20 years. I love the colour, the material and the cut. It looks lovely with shirts, blouses or light sweaters. But I especially love it with this long black shirt top with its blue and orange floral print.
Ein weiteres Vintageteil in diesem Look ist meine selbstgestrickte Basttasche, die ich vor Jahren als Anschauungsobjekt für meine Schüler gemacht habe. Sie ist im Schachbrettmuster gestrickt, gefüttert und hat ein Reißverschluss-Innenfach. Sie passt perfekt zu diesem Sommerlook.
Another vintage piece in this look is my self knitted raffia bag. I made it years ago as a demonstration object for my students. It has a chess board pattern, a lining and an interior pocket with a zipper.It goes perfectly with this summer look.
Habt ihr auch solche Teile, von denen ihr euch nicht trennen könnt? / Do you also have pieces like these you wouldn´t quit?
ich habe schon seit vorigem Jahr mit einem Slipdress geliebäugelt, aber ich habe nie eins gefunden, das mir gefiel bzw. das mir stand. Bis mir dieses hier über den Weg lief. Zuerst hat mich der Stoff angesprochen. Das Kleid ist nämlich aus einer festen Viskose und es ist in sich gemustert. Und zwar handelt es sich um ein Leopardenmuster.
Allerdings musste ich erst Hand anlegen, bevor es so schön aussah, wie es jetzt ist. Das Kleid reichte nämlich bis zum Boden und es hat vorne und hinten einen V-Ausschnitt. Aber es fehlte die schöne große Schleife, die es erst zu dem macht, was es jetzt ist.
Gut, wenn man mit der Nähmaschine umgehen kann!!! Ich habe das gute Stück nämlich 20 cm gekürzt und aus dem abgeschnittenen Stoff eine große Schleife genäht, die ich vorne an den V-Ausschnitt genäht habe. So habe ich ein Unikat gestaltet, das es nicht nochmal auf der Welt gibt. Wenn das nicht cool ist!!!
Na ja, eigentlich entstehen immer Unikate, wenn ich etwas nähe, denn ich mache meine Schnitte normalerweise selbst.

I´ve been flirting with a slipdress since last summer, but I´ve never found one I liked or which looked good on me. Until this one crossed my path. The first thing that caught my eyes was the fabric. The dress is made of a heavy viscose which is monochromed patterned. To be precise, it´s a leopard pattern.
However, I had to work on it before it came out like it is now. The dress had a maxi-length with a V-neck in the front and in the back as well. But it didn´t have this beautiful big bow, which makes it what it is now.
Good if you can handle the sewing machine!!! I shortened the lovely piece by 20 cm and made a big bow of the cut-off fabric, which I fixed to the front V-neckline. So I created a unique piece which only exists once in the world. If that is not cool!!!
Well, in general I create unique pieces when I´m sewing because I normally do my own cuts.
Ich trage unter meinem Slipdress ein T-Shirt. Ohne würde ich mich zu nackt fühlen. Ein schwarz-weiß gestreifter Fischerhut schützt meine Haare vor der Sonne. Außerdem passt er perfekt zu der schwarz-weiß gestreiften Innentasche meiner transparenten Handtasche (s. letztes Bild). Fischerhüte und transparente Taschen sind ja ein großes Thema in diesem Sommer. Silberne Slipper und eine schwarze Cateye-Sonnenbrille runden den Look ab.
I´m wearing a T-shirt underneath my slipdress. I would feel a bit naked without. A black and white striped bucket hat protects my hair from the sun. It also fits the inside bag of my transparent handbag (see the very last pic). Bucket hats and transparent bags are a big issue this summer. Silver coloured slip-ons and black cat eye sunglasses complete the look.
