Selfmade – Reni´s Odds and Sods

Hallo ihr Lieben,

mein liebstes Hobby verdanke ich meinem Vater, denn von ihm habe ich schon als Kind das Nähen gelernt. So konnte ich mir schon mit 14 Jahren meine Sachen selbst nähen oder Gekauftes optimieren. Ich fände es schrecklich, wenn ich für jeden Hosensaum zum Schneider gehen müsste. Die Tatsache, dass ich nähen kann, hat schon so manches Kleidungsstück vor dem Altkleidersack gerettet. Das ist nicht nur nachhaltig, sondern spart auch eine Menge Geld. Auch in meinem Beruf als Lehrerin für Textilgestaltung (und Englisch) war es mir immer ein Anliegen, möglichst vielen Kindern (natürlich auch den Jungs) das Nähen beizubringen. Und erstaunlicherweise haben sich die Jungs dabei oft geschickter angestellt als die Mädchen.

Heute möchte ich euch 3 Jeansteile zeigen, die durch Upcycling mittels geringfügiger Veränderungen zu Lieblingsteilen wurden. „Vorher-Bilder“ habe ich leider nicht, aber ich versuche euch zu beschreiben, wie sie vorher aussahen.

Hi my dears,

I owe my dearest hobby to my father, because he already taught me how to sew, when I was a child. And so I could make my own clothes or optimize clothes I´ve already had, at the age of 14. It would be aweful for me to go to the tailor for each trouser’s hem. The fact that I can sew has saved many a piece from the old clothes bag. This isn’t just sustainable but also saves a lot of money. In my job as a textile design teacher too it has always been my aim to teach as many children as possible (boys included) how to sew. And it was amaising enough that the boys often were more skilful than the girls.

Today I’ll show you 3 denim pieces, which became part of my favourites by upcycling with simple alterations. Unfortunately I don’t have „before photos“, but I’ll try to describe how the pieces looked before.

Patchworkjeans / Patchwork jeans

Diese Jeans habe ich vor ein paar Jahren gekauft. Sie gefiel mir, weil sie etwas höher geschnitten ist als die, die ich bis dahin hatte. Sie ist sehr angenehm zu tragen, weil sie einen Stretchanteil hat. Außerdem fand ich den Verschluss mit Knöpfen cool. Die Jeans war an den Hosenbeinen asymmetrisch ausgefranst, was mir schon bald nicht mehr gefiel. Daher habe ich die Fransen einfach abgeschnitten. Außerdem störten mich die applizierten Sterne auf den Knien. Da kam mir kürzlich die Idee, den aktuellen Patchworktrend umzusetzen. Ich hatte noch 2 abgeschnittene Hosenbeine in meinem Fundus, die ich aufbewahrt hatte, als ich mal aus einer alten Jeans Shorts gemacht habe. Daraus habe ich 2 passende Rechtecke zugeschnitten, die ich über die Sterne nähen wollte. Dazu musste ich meine Jeans-Hosenbeine allerdings innen auftrennen. Nachdem ich die Rechtecke aufgenäht hatte, habe ich die Hosenbeine wieder geschlossen und fertig war die Patchworkjeans.

I´ve bought these jeans some years ago. They have a highwaist cut, which I preferred to the jeans I had before. They are quite comfortable to wear, because they have a stretch component. I think it´s also cool, that they are closed with buttons. The jeans were asymmetrically frayed at the legs, which I soon didn’t like any more. That’s why I simply cut off the frays. I didn’t like the stars at the knees either. Then I had the idea to go for the trendy patchwork style. I still had two cut-off denim legs in my stock, which I had kept after having made shorts from old jeans a while ago. I cut 2 matching rectangles of them, which I wanted to cover the stars with. But before I had to unstitch the inner side of the jeans‘ legs. After I had fixed the rectangles, I closed the legs again and my patchwork jeans were finished.

Hemdjacke /Shacket

Dieses Jeanshemd war ursprünglich hinten ein ganzes Stück länger als vorne. Das sah in der Seitenansicht komisch aus. Also habe ich meine Schere gezückt und das Rückenteil an das vordere angeglichen und umgesäumt. Da der Stoff relativ fest ist, trage ich das Hemd jetzt meistens als Jacke. Die Brusttaschen sehen auch aus wie die einer Jacke.

This jeans shirt was quite a bit longer at the back than at the front. That looked funny in side view. So I took my scissors and cut the back down until it matched the front, and then I seamed it again. As the fabric is quite solid, I usually wear the shirt as a jacket. The patch chest pockets also resemble those of a jacket.

Kickflare-Jeans

Diese Jeans ist schon ca. 15 Jahre alt. Sie hatte ursprünglich einen normalen Saum. Ich fand sie schon immer einen Tick zu kurz. Hier kam mir der Trend mit ausgefransten Säumen zugute. Der Saum wurde kurzerhand aufgetrennt, und so wurde die Jeans nicht nur moderner, sondern auch etwas länger.

These jeans are already about 15 years old. Originally they had a normal hem. I always thought they were a bit too short. Here the trend of frayed hems benefited me. I simply unstitchehd the hem, and so the jeans didn’t just become more modern, but a bit longer too.

lasst euch vom blauen Himmel auf den Bildern nicht täuschen, denn mittlerweile ist es so kalt geworden, dass man sich schön warm einpacken muss, wenn man nach draußen geht. Besonders dann, wenn man so eine Frostbeule ist wie ich. Daher habe ich jetzt meine kuscheligsten Pullover hervorgeholt und überlegt, wie ich sie in diesem Winter tragen kann. Hier sind meine Looks:

Hi my dears,

don´t be fooled by the blue sky, it has become so cold meanwhile, that you have to wrap up very warm when you go outdoors. Especially when you´re such a frostbite as I am. That´s why I took out my coziest sweaters, and I thought about how to wear them this winter. Here are my looks:

Der rostrote Stehkragenpullover besteht aus einer Wollmischung und ist im Patentmuster gestrickt. Ich trage ihn hier zu einer Hose mit weiten Beinen im Fischgrätmuster und schwarzen Wildlederbooties.

The rust-red stand-up collar sweater is made of a wool blend and knitted in patent pattern. Here I´m wearing it with wide-legged Herringbone trousers and black suede booties.

Mein graue Norwegerpullover besteht aus reiner Wolle gemacht. Ich trage darunter ein schwarzes Rollkragenshirt, um auch meinen Hals warm zu halten. Der Pullover passt gut zu meinen roten Jeans mit geraden Beinen und den weißen Schnürstiefeln.

My grey Norwegian sweater is made of pure wool. I´m wearing a black turtleneck shirt underneath to keep my neck warm too. The sweater goes nicely with my red straight leg jeans and the white lace-up boots.

Diesen Pullover habe ich vor vielen Jahren selbst gemacht. Er besteht aus einem roten Teddystoff, hat einen regulierbaren Stehkragen und kleine Seitenschlitze. Ich habe ihn hier zu meinen schwarzen Jogpants aus Kunstleder und meinen schwarzen Chelseaboots kombiniert.

I made this sweater many years ago. I used a red teddybear fabric for sewing. The sweater has an adjustable stand-up collar and little side slits. Here I combined it with my black fake-leather jogpants and my black Chelsea boots.

Der nächste Pullover ähnelt stark einem Poncho. Er besteht aus einer Wollmischung , hat ein ethnisches Muster und Fransen am Saum. Ich trage ihn zur schwarzen Lederhose und Combatboots.

The next sweater looks a lot like a poncho. It´s made of a wool blend and has an ethnic pattern and fringes on the hem. I´m wearing it with black leather pants and combat boots.

Zu diesem schwarzen Pullover trage ich ebenfallsmeine Lederhose. Er ist hat ein weißes Blattmotiv und einen Stehkragen. Er ist aus einem dicken reinen Baumwollgarn gemacht. Meine schwarzen Reißverschlussstiefeletten passen perfekt dazu.

This black sweater also goes with my black leather pants. It has got a white leaf motif and a stand-up collar. It´s made of a thick pure cotton thread. My black zipper-boots go perfectly with it.

Auch der letzte Pullover ist selbst gemacht und zwar, ob ihr´s glaubt oder nicht, bereits Mitte der Achziger Jahre! Ich habe ihn aus einem dicken Multicolor-Bouclégarn aus reiner Wolle gestrickt, und ich liebe ihn noch immer. Er ist der wärmste Pullover, den ich habe. Er passt zu allem, so auch zu meinen Dark Denim Bootcut Levisjeans, die ich hier trage. Ich habe einen neongrünen Schal zum Pullover kombiniert, der nicht nur farblich perfekt passt, sondern auch meinen Hals wärmt (ich wiederhole: Frostbeule!).

The last sweater is selfmade too, in fact, believe it or not, in the mid 80s already! I knitted it of a thick multicoloured bouclé yarn of pure wool and I still love him. It´s the warmest sweater I own and it fits with everything. Also with my dark denim bootcut Levis jeans. I combined a neon-green scarf with it, which not only matches the colours perfectly but also keeps my neck warm (I repeat: frostbite!).

Wie ihr seht, bin ich bin bestens für frostige Temperaturen gerüstet! / As you see, I´m well prepared for frosty temperatures!
